The Nova Model 43 (Type 1) and Model 44 (Type 2) are Integrating Sound Level Meters that are ideal for occupational noise assessments and checking the suitability of hearing protection.
The Nova Integrating Sound Level Meter meets the full requirements of the USA OSHA occupational noise regulations and the European noise at work regulations.
For this type of application you should use at least a Type 2 (Class 2) sound level meter, and most recommend the use of an integrating sound level meter, especially for rapidly varying noise levels.
The Nova makes all the necessary measurements at the same time, over the whole measurement range.
As calibration is so important to the occupational noise regulations, the meter will prompt you to complete a calibration check when you switch it on. Just place the Calibrator on the microphone and the meter will make any adjustments itself.
Average Sound Level - Lavg and LAeq
The Lavg is the average sound level with a Slow time weighting, as required by the OSHA regulations.
For many other regulations, such as the EU and UK occupational noise regulations, the LAeq is required - average "A" weighted sound level with no time weighting.
Peak Sound Level - LZpeak and LCpeak
To assess any loud banging noise you should also measure the LZpeak or LCpeak depending on your regulations. This is also shown on the main display above.
Hearing Protector Assessment - C-A
When assessing the suitability of hearing protection, the standard HML method. The (C - A) figure is used for this calculation and so is also displayed on the main noise at work screen.
